Begin with the End in Mind

Dr. Stephen R. Covey’s best-selling book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, first published in 1989, has sold more than 25 million copies in 38 languages worldwide. It remains one of the best-selling nonfiction business books.

One of the habits Covey recommends is to begin with the end in mind.

Planning for your retirement is no different… having a vision and a plan for your future will create and sustain momentum.

A great tool you can use is to write out your retirement goals.

Just imagine, if you could wave a magic wand, what would retirement look like to you? Consider the lifestyle you want and the impact you’d like to have on your family, community or the causes you care about – in other words, what do you want your legacy to be.

Once you have a clear picture, describe it in detail, it will help to guide your financial decisions.

Next, share it with the people you care about and the nonprofits you want to impact.

Then, examine your plan with a financial professional from time to time to ensure you are on track.

As your circumstances change, so should your approach if needed. Review your progress to see if it’s aligned with your goals.

Finally, don’t forget to celebrate milestones along the way. Whether it’s achieving a savings target or reaching a retirement goal, recognizing progress keeps you motivated!

How is your financial plan shaping up?

The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no vision.”
