Today is my 25th wedding anniversary. Sheri and I met 35 years ago in Grade 8 at a Saskatoon Blades game. Sheri doesn’t remember it, but I do! We became friends and then fell in love in Grade 12. We married after university.

Today is a special day for me, as hopefully most anniversaries in our lives are.
This anniversary is one I’ve pondered more than any other. What has helped us reach this milestone?
Early in our marriage, we received some wise counsel: If you want a strong marriage, hang out with people who have strong marriages.
Bob and Twylla Sutton just celebrated their 50th anniversary this summer, and we’ve been fortunate to be able to hang out with them and learn from them.
My marriage hasn’t always been easy, as I’m sure most people can relate to. There are trying times in life when it is difficult to be on the same page because we have differing opinions and feelings about things. While the hope is that you can talk through it, work through it, and find a way back to that partnership you committed to in the beginning, that may not always be possible.
From time to time I’m “accused” of being a marriage counsellor in my role as a wealth advisor. Perhaps it is true, since the number one cause of divorce is money problems.

That’s why Sutton Wealth Planning built our Abundant Retirement process the way we did – to build a joint vision for the future that is compatible and unified. Sure, it may take some compromise, some hard reflection on what’s most important, and refinement from time to time.
At Sutton, we eat our own pudding. Having been through our planning process, Sheri and I have clarity and an aligned foundation that we can stand on to pursue the future with zest and excitement.
We are mindful of the time we do have together, thankful for the great people in our lives, and looking forward to many more years together.
If you’d like to learn more about the process we went through to gain alignment and unity and to sleep through the night with peace of mind, please reach out for a complimentary Abundant Lifestyle & Legacy Assessment. Visit us at SuttonPlanning.ca or call our office at 306-934-5540.
Be as careful with the books you read as the company you keep: for habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as the latter.
